Vastra Dhauti
Vastra Dhauti, also known as Cloth Cleansing, is a yogic technique that falls under the category of Shatkarmas (six purification practices) in Hatha Yoga. It involves swallowing a strip of wet cloth and then gently pulling it out to cleanse the digestive tract. Here’s a detailed overview:
- Technique (Vastra Dhauti):
- Preparation: Start by preparing a clean, soft, and long strip of cloth made of muslin or a similar fabric. The cloth should be about 3-4 inches wide and 15-25 feet long.
- Wetting the Cloth: Wet the cloth thoroughly in lukewarm water. Squeeze out excess water to ensure the cloth is damp but not dripping.
- Swallowing the Cloth: Stand in a comfortable position and swallow one end of the wet cloth, allowing it to pass through the throat and into the stomach. This should be done slowly and carefully to avoid any discomfort or choking.
- Pulling the Cloth Out: Once the cloth is swallowed, gently grasp the other end of the cloth and slowly and carefully pull it out. The cloth should be drawn out smoothly, and care should be taken to avoid pulling too quickly or forcefully.
- Rinsing and Repeating: Rinse the mouth and throat thoroughly after performing Vastra Dhauti. The cloth can be washed and dried for future use.
