Types of Vayus
GS has also described about ten vayus and their locations. Vayus at 1 to 5 are Principal vayus called Pranadi (Internal Vayus) and they belong to inner body. Vayus at 6 to 10 are Nagadi (External Vayus) which belong to Outer body.
- Prana – Heart
- Apana – Sphere of Anus
- Samana – Navel Region
- Udana – Throat
- Vyana – Whole Body
- Naga – Responsible for eructation (Belching), gives rise to consciousness
- Kurma – Opens eyelids, causes vision
- Krikara – Responsible for Sneezing, hunger and thirst
- Devadatta – Responsible for Yawning.
- Dhananjaya – Pervades whole gross body and does not leave it even after death. Produces sound.
