This is the gesture of the hands needed for the practice of alternate breathing.

The thumb and little finger are spread rigidly forming a V. This V should not be allowed to relax during the entirei practice of pranayama. The thumb on the right control the pingal (right nostril) and the little finger and ring finger control the Ida (left nostril).
