  1. Sit erect with legs stretched, heels together, palms pressing on the floor by the side of the buttocks. Make the spine, neck and head erect. This is Starting Position called Dandasana of Sitting Asanas / Postures.
  2. Fold the right leg at the knee and place the heel under the right buttock.
  3. Fold the left leg at the knee and place the heel under the left buttock.
  4. Sit in vajrasana. Slowly bend back, taking the support of first the right elbow and arm then the left.
  5. Bring the top of the head to the ground, arching the back. Place the hands on the thighs.
  6. Try to keep the knees in contact with the floor. If necessary, separate the knees. Care should be taken not to strain the muscles and ligaments of the thighs and knees by forcing the knees to touch the ground in the final position.
  7. Return to the starting position in the reverse order, breathing in and taking support of the elbows and arms. Never leave the final position by straightening legs first; this may dislocate the knee joints.
  8. Return to vajrasana first and then straighten the legs.

Dorsal region and lungs are well expanded. Thyroid and parathyroid glands are stimulated by the practice of Supta vajrasana.
