Nadhi Shuddhi Pranayama is nerve purifier. How to practice?

This is nerve purifier pranayama.

  1. Sit comfortably in an meditative posture. Sit straight.
  2. Be calm and close your eyes.
  3. Close the right nostril with the right thumb.
  4. Now inhale slowly through the left nostril and fill your lungs.
  5. After complete inhalation, press the left nostril with the ring and little finger of the right hand and close the left nostril.
  6. Open the right nostril, exhale slowly.
  7. After complete exhalation, again inhale through the right nostril and fill your lungs.
  8. Close the right nostril by pressing it with the right thumb.
  9. After opening the left nostril, breathe out slowly. This process is one round of Nadhi Shuddhi Pranayama
  10. Sometimes, we can fix the ratio of 1:2.
  11. Inhale through left nostril for 4 counts, exhale through right nostril for 8 counts. Inhale through right nostril for 4 counts and exhale through left nostril for 8 counts.
Continue doing this exercise for around 10-12 rounds.
Effects:
  • By doing this pranayama, the whole body is nourished by an extra supply of oxygen. Carbondioxide is efficiently expelled and the blood is purified of toxins.
  • This pranayama cleanses and tones up the entire nervous system. The brain centres are stimulated to work nearer to their optimum capacity. It also induces tranquility, clarity of thoughts and concentration, and is recommended for those engaged in mental work.
  • It increases vitality and lowers levels of stress and anxiety by harmonizing the pranas.
  • 72000 naadis are purified by this  pranayama.
  • Chakras are activated because of purification of these naadis.
