When I do downward facing dog (or any pose where my head is below my heart), I become dizzy and nauseated.  Could this be related to my high blood pressure?  My hpertension is well controlled with medication.  I am 55 years old, 5'4" tall, 115 pounds and have been exercising regularly for the last 30 years,  I recently began yoga in an effort to maintain flexibility.

The posture you have mentioned is recommended in cases of hypertension. You may practice this posture with the head rested on the pillows. As and when you feel dizziness during such posture, come back immediately and relax in balasana (child's pose) so that you can be normal again.  Forward bends and other introverted asanas help us to quiet the brain and lengthen and soften the neck along the path of the carotid artery. While doing such poses to lower blood pressure, try to support the head and if still the problem persists and kindly let me know.
